Sigiriya is located in central Matale District of Sri Lanka, surrounded by beautiful anthology of gardens, reservoirs, and other expensive structures. The city was built during the time of King Kassapa I (AD 477 - 495). Sigiriya is famously known for its attractive display of architectural tradition along with buildings and gardens with their trees, pathways, water gardens and the mixture of symmetrical and asymmetrical elements. It is one of the seven world heritage sites of Sri Lanka, which makes it top tourist destination of the island.

Tourist Attractions in Sigiriya

Boulder Garden
Boulder Garden is considered as one of the unique concept of nature. The garden is famous for its natural boulders and winding pathways which make it an ideal place to visit. It is also well-known for its Cistern Rock and Audience Hall rock.

Palace Garden
Palace Garden has become one of the major tourist attractions in Sigiriya. Tourists come here to see the beautiful sites of 'terraces' and pools cut in rocks. Palace Garden is situated on the top of a hill.

Sigiriya Rock
The most popular attraction in the city is Sigiriya Rock. While visiting it, one can enjoy the Lion staircase that leads to the palace garden, which is located on a summit. The other features of the place reflected on two massive paws and brick masonry, Ancient limestone and beautifully made paintings. 

Terrace Garden
Terrace Garden is famous among tourists, because it is carved out of a natural hill. In the garden, all terraces situated in a concentric circle that ringing the rock, which systematically rising above the other.

The Mirror Wall
The Mirror Wall has become one of the major tourist destinations in Sigiriya. The wall was established way back in 8th century. According to the historical records, the king could see himself in the wall, because it was well polished like a mirror. Writing on the wall is banned.

Water Gardens
One of the beauties of Sigiriya is its various water gardens. The gardens are situated on the western region of the city. The visitors from all over the world enjoy here a number of water pavilions, courtyards, water courses, pools and containers that are so attractive to visit. 

Wildlife Sanctuary
Wildlife Sanctuary is located near to the Minneriya National park. The sanctuary is blessed with picturesque landscape that includes dry evergreen forest, shrub forests, and dry deciduous forest wherein animals including elephants, Sambar, eagle and falcon thrive.
