Officially known as Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah, this place is a cluster of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea, 30 km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia. Langkawi Attractions Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls Commonly known as 'Seven Wells', the place has a collection of seven intertwined natural pools, fed by seven separate waterfalls. The view becomes increasingly scenic while you climb from the lower falls to higher ones. Macaque monkeys, hornbills and giant squirrels can be found along the way. Pantai Tanjung Rhu This beautiful beach, filled with coral and marine life, is also known as 'Casuarina Beach', since Casuarina trees are in abundance here. The little rocky outcrop of Chabang Island, rising out from the sea, is a striking feature here. Amongst from the numerous caves found here, Gua Cerita and Gua Siam are most famous. Underwater World Underwater World is one of the largest marine and freshwater aquaria in Asia, featuring over 5,000 varieties of fish and other exhibits. The main highlights include the gigantic hexagonal tank and walk through a tunnel tank containing six million liters of water. Sharks, stingrays, huge turtles and other sea creatures are separated from you only by the laminated clear glass walls of the tunnel. Dataran Lang (Eagle Square) Langkawi is also known as the 'Eagle State', since it holds a huge and splendid statue of the reddish brown eagle at Kuah Jetty. The surrounding mini park is filled with scenic ponds, bridges, covered terraces, restaurants and barrel vaults made up of bricks. A romantic dinner or leisurely stroll is a must under the tranquil and soft, cool sea breeze. Langkawi Cable Car The cable car offers its visitors a way up to Mount Mat Cinang, Langkawi's second highest peak. The hilltop welcomes its passengers with a menagerie of stalls, selling souvenirs, toys, snacks and drinks. The steel bridge gives a magnificent view of the surrounding horizon, the island's landscape, skyline and seas beyond. Gunung Raya Gunung Raya is the tallest natural feature on Langkawi, standing at a height of 881 meters. Covered with dense jungle, it is the favorite destination for trekking. Apart from the spectacular view of the island, Gunung Raya also offers a teahouse, an art gallery and a small museum at the peak. Pantai Cenang The most popular beach destination, Pantai Cenang is known for its delightful sunsets, long and sandy beach, coconut trees and elegant casuarinas. It also has a number of resorts, luxury class hotels, chalets and restaurants. The beach offers all kinds of water sports. Pulau Payar Marine Park Four islands, namely, Pulau Payar, Pulau Lembu, Pulau Segantang and Pulau Kaca, combine together to form the marine park.
