Phuket, which was formerly known as Tha-Laang or Talang, or Junk Ceylon, is located in Thailand's southern area, constituted largest island of the country. It is connected with main Thailand only through a bridge. Phuket is divided into three districts that include Mueang Phuket, Kathu and Thalang. Wat Chalong Temple
Wat Chalong is one of the most visited of the Buddhist temples in Phuket. It has an elevated unconventional pagoda/chedi, on the top of it, there is glass case which contains a chip of bone theoretically from the Buddha.
Phuket Zoo is situated in south of Phuket. It entertains people, particularly the kids, with its daily shows of monkeys, crocodiles and elephants. In the Zoo, there are over 12 acres of attractive gardens that are full of Asian and other animals, along with a bird park, aquarium and orchid garden.
Kao Rung hill Phuket
Kao Rung hill Phuket is a park located on a small hill of Phuket Town. It contains beautiful picturesque views and is famous with locals practicing evening exercise.
Hat Karon is the second largest of Phuket's tourist beaches. It consists with plenty of restaurants and tourist stores right across the street from the beach. The southern point of the beach has a fine coral reef stretching towards Kata and Bu Island.
Two Heroines Monument
Two Heroines Monument is Phuket's most popular monument in Amphoe Thalang. It is the memorial statue of the heroines Thao Thepkasattri (Kunying Jan) and Thao Sisunthon (Mook), who rallied islanders in 1785 to fend off Burmese invaders.
There are many Chinese temples around Phuket Town. There are mostly famous for their colourful and detailed decorations, featuring dragons and other mythical creatures. Among the best example is the Shrine of the Serene Light, which was supposedly established in 200 years back.
Tourists traveling to Phuket should not forget to visit the very famous theme park - FantaSea. It is a world of fantasy, offering you some of the most amazing high-thrill rides found in Thailand. Visitors can shop, play games and entertain themselves in myriad ways, such as watching the incredible show performed by trained elephants.
Phuket Aquarium has become one of the best tourist destinations in Phuket. It attracts people for its unique features like a 10 metre long underwater glass tunnel, sandy beach, rocky shore, and coral reef and mangrove habitats. It also exhibits display of marine life contains Napoleon wrasse, bluefin trevally, snapper, grouper, butterfly fish, banner fish.
The Butterfly Garden and Insect World
While visiting Phuket, one can never miss a trip to the Butterfly Garden and Insect World. It is famous for features like presence of 6,000 butterflies a month with 40 different species from all over Thailand in a 1,350 square metre outdoor garden. It also displays an insect exhibition consists of beetles, termites, ants, music lover insects and insect families.
