Chitwan is named after the Chitwan valley, located in between the Siwalik and the Mahabharat Ranges. It is one of the 75 districts of Nepal and has a population of around 472, 048. Chitwan is renowned worldwide for the Chitwan National park, which has been given the status of world heritage site. Chitwan National Park is Chitwan’s prime tourist attraction and holds the credit of being the first national park of the country. Situated in South Nepal, Chitwan National Park was set up in 1973 and is spread over an area of 932km sq. The park, being the country’s natural treasure, is listed among the world heritage sites.
